Bearcats Crack the National Ranking for first time since 2002!

Bearcats Earn No. 19 National Ranking

First national ranking since 2002 season

CINCINNATI - On the heels of its 1-0 upset win at No. 20 Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon, the University of Cincinnati women’s soccer team has moved into the national rankings, earning the No. 19 spot in the Soccer America Women's Top 25 poll.

“We are pleased to be recognized by the soccer community,” said head coach Michelle Salmon. “However, it is still extremely early in the season. Like I said when the BIG EAST Preseason Poll was released, it doesn’t matter where you start, but rather, where you finish. There are 19 steps to our regular season journey and we are focusing on the fifth step, preparing for the College of Charleston on Friday.”

The Bearcats (3-0-1) have not been nationally ranked since the 2002 season when they cracked the Top 25 on two different occasions. That year the Bearcats finished the season with an overall record of 17-4-3, won the Conference USA Tournament, and knocked off Kentucky 1-0 in the NCAA Tournament before bowing out 2-1 to No. 11 Tennessee. UC was ranked as high as No. 21 during that season.

Notre Dame (No. 4), Cincinnati (No. 19), and Louisville (No. 23) are the three BIG EAST Conference schools ranked in the most recent (Aug. 30) Soccer America poll.

Cincinnati will look to continue its unbeaten streak on Friday, Sept. 3 when the Bearcats host the College of Charleston at 7 p.m. in Gettler Stadium.

Bearcats Giving Back

The University of Cincinnati women's soccer program has run two free clinics in the past weeks reaching out to over 400 young players in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area.

The first clinic took place at the Town and Country Soccer Complex and was run in conjunction with the Roby Stall technical training series.  The second clinic was run at Gettler Stadium prior to the match against Vanderbilt.

By reaching out to the local community we are sharing our love of the game and looking to give back to the game we love.  We are also working to provide positive role models for young female players in the area and judging from the 45 minutes of autographs we digned after the Vandy game it appears we are on our way!

2010 Bearcat Katie Greer to play with Long Island Fury WPSL team

News from the Long Island Fury

April 20, 2010  -  The Long Island Fury, defending Women's Premier Soccer League champions, is very pleased to announce that forward/midfielder Katherine Greer of Massapequa is joining the team for the 2010 season. At 17 years old, she could see action with both the women's team and the new Under-20 team.
Katie's standout soccer career includes playing for the Albertson Fury '91, Eastern New York Olympic Development Program and the Region 1 Team. In school soccer, she played for St. Anthony's High School and will be playing this fall for the University of Cincinnati Bearcats.
"Katie is a smart, crafty little dynamo who is superb around the box and in front of goal," commented Fury Director of Football Paul Riley. "She scores big goals and produces in big moments when the game is on the line. Can play with her back to goal or facing the goal, a terrific prospect and the University of Cincinnati is very lucky to have her."
Academically, Katie is a member of the National Honor Society and received the Duns Scotus Academic Award.

Founded in 2006 as a Women's Premier Soccer League franchise, the Long Island Fury won the WPSL national championship in both 2006 and 2009. Seven Long Island Fury alumnae--Gina and Tina DiMartino, Kelly Henderson, Ali Long, Rebecca Moros, Alex Singer and Sue Weber--used their phenomenal play for the Fury to become current professional players in Women's Professional Soccer. Their former coach, Paul Riley, now coaches the Philadelphia Independence franchise in that same league.

BEARCATS SINK THE COMMODORES

On Saturday evening the Cincinnati Bearcats put on two clinics.... one for 200 kids prior to their game against Vanderbilt and then another one during their game with the Commodores!

The Bearcats came out on fire against the Commodores earning four corner kicks against their SEC opponent in the first five minutes of the game.  The Cincinnati pressure would be relentless all night long eventually earning their first goal of the night when Kendall Loggins headed in an Emily Hebbeler corner kick for a 1-0 lead at the half.

In the second half the Bearcats attack tallied two more goals and struck the wood work two more times.  First up was Katie Johnson who struck a tremendous half volley from the top of the 18 yard box on a poor clearance for the 2-0 lead.  Then, after ringing the bar two times, the Bearcats earned their third goal of the night when Erin Kaufman fed Emily Hebbeler who left her defender and the goal keeper glued to the turf.

The final score on the night was 3-0 and the crowd of over 1000 fans left Gettler Stadium with alot to smile about.

Next up for Cincinnati will be the Dayton Flyers at 7:00 pm on Friday night at Gettler Stadium

BEARCATS START SPRING WITH A WIN!!

The Cincinnati Bearcats topped the Marshall Thundering Herd on Wednesday evening at Gettler Stadium by a score of 2-1.

Cincinnati enjoyed the majority of the possession in the match but could not break through a tough Marshall side until Kendall Loggins was brought down in the box and earned a penalty kick.  Kendall stepped up to the mark and put away the penalty kick for the 1-0 halftime lead.  In the second half the Bearcats continued to pressure the Herd and eventually broke through when Kaylee Dakers calmly put away her opportunity for a 2-0 lead.  Marshall would draw back at 2-1 with just 3 minutes remaining in the match, but, could get no closer.

Next up in the spring for Cincinnati is a trip to Bloomington, Indiana to play the University of Indiana on Sunday afternoon at 2:00pm.
